Our Purpose
The main purpose and impetus behind the formation of Club ODAT was to create a stable and consistent location for members of various recovery programs in the Gettysburg/Hanover area to hold meetings and help each other recover from alcoholism/addiction.
In the years prior, it was difficult for members of such groups to find a place to meet that was not subject to arbitrary changes or disruptions from the landlord (Churches or Community Centers), which affected the newcomer's ability to find the meetings. Thus Club ODAT was created to supply these groups a permanent location to hold their meetings.
Our Volunteers
Currently we have 8 members on the Board, all in recovery, with over 100 years of sobriety collectively. All are active members of recovery groups, all are members of Club ODAT and active in the community. Board membership is done on a volunteer basis and members were instrumental in the creation and growth of the club.
The only non volunteer actively helping at the club is the custodian. All other activities and services rendered at the club are voluntary.
Our mission
Our mission is to help fellow alcoholics/addicts recover, provide a safe place to aid in that recovery and in so doing, improve the community in Hanover and the surrounding area.
We currently have 18 independant meetings, serving over 600 attendees monthly. These meetings are open to anyone suffering from alcoholism or addiction, the club hosts meetings at various times of the day, every day of the week. There are meetings specifically geared toward veterans, newcomers, commuters, family members and the general public.
We have over 40 members that pay a monthly donation in order to subsidize the costs of rent and utilities of the meeting room. Several larger donors have also sustained Club ODAT.
We think the amount of people we are able to serve on a limited budget is one of our major accomplishments.
We also organize and host holiday parties, open houses, pool tournaments and dances.
